Opinion and Answer 23 Edition 48: Caledonian Railway in Scotland researched

Good Sunday Evening everyone, It's time for another edition of Opinion & Answer. In today's edition, I want to share a few reasons why I also like the Caledonian Railway as one of my favorite British Railways to research online. So please join me on this fun journey as I share a few reasons about liking the Furness Railway.

I would've done it earlier between 1 pm-2 pm like I usually do on Sundays but this was another Sunday where I was tied up on an unexpected project.  But I have some time this evening, so here is my Opinion & Answer.

Hi folks, another one of my favorite British/Scotland railways to research is the Caledonian Railway.  The caledonian railway is located between Glasglow, Scotland and its connection point with the English railways that lead down to London,England.  The railway has an amazing set of steam locomotives and railway cars during its operation between 1847-1923 when it was taken over by merging to for the Scottish portion of the London,Midland and Scottish Railway after the 1923 act that was by British parliament.

According to the Wikipedia article title "Caledonian Railway", "
It was clearly desirable to connect central Scotland into the emerging network. At first it was assumed that only one route from Scotland to England would be feasible, and there was considerable controversy over the possible route. A major difficulty was the terrain of the Southern Uplands: a route running through the hilly lands would involve steep and lengthy gradients that were challenging for the engine power of the time; a route around them, either to the west or the east, involved much lengthier main lines, and made connection to both Edinburgh and Glasgow more problematic." which indicated how at the time of connecting the railway from Scotland to England was a bit hard during planning but it turn out that the railway was perfectly fine after the construction that resulted in merger of smaller railways to make the railway work.

Throughout its operations, the caledonian railway did a mixture of passenger trains, freight trains and mineral trains that travel across Scotland during its operational time between 1847-1923. As seen in the research, off the main line were numerous branch-lines that were built between the railway itself and some private rail companies.  Out of all the classes of steam locomotives that were operated on the Caledonian Railway, my top two classes are the 812 class locomotives and the 652 class locomotives that are both designed by John F. McIntosh between 1895-1914.
