Opinion & Answer 23 Edition Part 30: Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway (L&YR) Preservation Classes


 

Good Sunday Afternoon, everyone. As it's another Sunday, it means another Opinion & Answer to be released here on Steam Train  History Blog. On today's edition of Opinion & Answer, we get to dive into some of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway locomotive Classes that have preservation. Except for Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway locomotive "Dot" class, the others will be covered on Saturday February 4th's Steam train Posts. So without further due, lets dive into it.

To start off, lets take a look at some details about the L&YR's "Dot" class locomotives that worked at Horwich Works. 

 9.L&YR Dot class Details

  1. Railroad/Basic: L&YR {Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway}
  2. Engine: Dot class 
  3. Designer: Beyer Peacock 
  4. Builder: Beyer, Peacock & Co. & Horwich Works
  5. Built (Year): 1887-1901 => 8 locomotives
    1. Beyer, Peacock & Co. => 3 Locomotives
    2. Horwich Works => 5 Locomotives 
    3. Total: 8 locomotives
  6. Withdrawn: 1930-1948 =>all 8 real locomotives
  7. Number of Wheels: 8 wheels
  8. Configuration: 0-4-0st 
  9. Preserved: 1 real locomotives 
    1. Wren- retired from active duty and put on statistic display 

Notes 

  • 8 real locomotives 
  • Fit an 18 inch-gauge railway at Horwich Works
