Feline Honorary Spotlights and Feline's New Year resolutions 2022
Feline Honorary Spotlight
Happy Wednesday: Today I got an interesting story to share about a thanksgiving Cat (Wed 12.14.22)
Happy Wednesday everyone.
Please note: This doesn't have anything pertaining to railroad but wanted to share as this is the month of December which is the month of cat from what I researched anyway about December and cats.
I just found this article about a very interesting cat who had an interesting thanksgiving occurring to the article's publication. The cat known as "Smells" had an interesting trip from New York state to Florida.
According to the article, "Air travel around the holidays can be stressful, just ask Smells." which I would agree after an interesting trip Smells had after being trapped in a check in bag. Well it shows one fact that we can all agree on, Air travel is certainly stressful during the holiday times as we've seen by Smells. Luckily Smells is doing ok according to the article.

Happy Thursday: Lets have a therapy session with felines (Thur 12.15.22)

Hi All, Happy Thursday
I wanted to continue with my feline series that I've been doing since the start of December. Up to today (Thursday December 15th,2022) had been a feline related railroad series where I was shining spotlights on felines who worked on the railroads. But I've changed it slightly as I turned to focusing more towards the felines and less railroad related feline stories due to other sites (listed below) who handle those tasks.
Note to all: So for the rest of the month, I'll be spotlighting different feline jobs. I'll still be doing a Railroad Winter series for the week of Sunday 12/18/2022-Friday 12/22/2022. So lets focus on today's spotlight where I shine the spotlight on therapy felines. It will be a brief story as you can read in further details through the links at the bottom of the post so lets get into today's spotlight.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As in the therapy world, everyone loves the lovely therapy dogs who come in to support kids and make people feel comfortable. Along with the therapy dogs, there are also four little paws with a tail that goes meow instead of woof which are the signs of cats. There are also therapy felines who are trained in the same training as therapy dogs and other animals that provide support to people. In parts where dog might be too intimidating, cats can sometimes stroll in to win the hearts of people who may be scared of dogs.
Therapy cats work exactly the same way as therapy dogs do in terms of making people feel safer especially therapy cats who help kids with Autism. To learn more about therapy cat and Autism kids, please click on link #1 below to learn more and read the article. I do hope you enjoy this post and feel free to click any of the links down below to learn more on this topic.
Join me tomorrow at 7am to learn about felines on the front line with the public safety community. I'll be having a discussion about the following felines:
- Feline firefighter (Flame the Arson Cat)
- Feline Police officer (Captain the police cat)
- Feline Emergency Medical Responder (Killer the FDNY Station 57 Cat)
- Feline Dispatcher (TazCom Dispatch Center's Tigger)

Feline Responder Friday- The feline responders of Fire,Police,EMS and Dispatch cats who come to the aid of the First Responders (Fri 12.16.22)
Hi, Everyone
- Firefighter-Flame the Arson Cat
- Police officer-Captain the police cat
- Emergency Medical Service responder-Killier the station 57 cat
- Dispatcher Tigger
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FIRE SERVICE: Flame the Arson Cat
Flame the Arson Cat
From the fire service community, their first furry companion I chose was a ginger & white cat from Greenville, South Carolina named "Flame" the Arson cat who lives at the Belmont Fire Department. He just showed up at the firehouse one day and fell in love with the members of Belmont Fire Department.
Find out more via the following links below about Flame the Arson Cat
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Law Enforcement: Furry Companion
From the law enforcement community, their first furry companion I chose a white & orange cat from Port Lavaca, Texas named "Captain" the police cat who lives at Port Lavaca Police Department. He is the second highest ranking member on the police force. According Chief Colin Rangnow, had an idea of the department adopting a cat as he grew up with different types of animals, so they decided to adopt a cat from the local shelter.
Find out more via the following links below about Captain the Police Cat aka "the long paw of the law"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Emergency Medical Services: Furry Companion
From the Emergency Medical Service community, their first furry companion I chose was a cat from FDNY Station 57 in Brooklyn, New York. According to the crew at the EMS station 57, the stray cat, mostly named "Killer" , happened to wander into the station and became an influencer of the station. Sadly as of April 2019, "Killer" passed away due to her being very ill due to cancer.

911 Dispatch Centers: Furry Companion
TazCom Dispatch Center's Tigger |
From the 911 dispatch center group, their first furry companion I chose was a cat from TazCom Dispatch center in Perkin, Illinois. Tigger as the orange tabby is called, continues the legacy of the TazCom dispatch center's cat mascots after the first cat named "Crack" which is short for Crack Head (no one knows the meaning behind the first cat's name of Crack Head at least from the public anyways). Tigger certainly knows when dispatchers get stress from the 911 call when he jumps up or gives a purr sound to calm their nerves down. Heck some of the above may be your favorites that are listed above. Like #50 Ray Bradbury is one of my favorite authors (more on this another time) and #34 Isaac Newton + #47 Mark Twin are two of the greatest scientists in history.

Feline's New Resolutions Spotlight (Mon 12/26-Fri 12/30)
Happy Tuesday Folks,
Another day is closer to New Year's Day so it's time for a dive into another Feline New Year resolution. On today's spotlight we take a look into Feline New Year resolution #2:Explore higher education. So lets get into it.
From Source: 10 New Year’s Resolutions Cats Make-catster website (Same for post #1 article)
Like many humans, cats desire obtaining higher education. Humans usually mean college, while cats are referring to higher levels of household surface. They’d resolve to finally get on that kitchen counter and learn how the bagels that mock them from on high taste. They’d look forward to exploring the top of the dresser, studying the swat-ability of various baubles. Oh, and there’s another part of this resolution: “… and not get caught.”
My Comment:
I do agree with this paragraph about felines who explore near the top of every room by climbing up stuff to get up on top of shelving and top of curtain rods. In terms of people, we can help our felines stay on the floor by keeping them off our counters to climb up higher even though they want our attention seeking felines. With every new year, we promise to keep our feline companions from climbing up higher but we know as people it is hard to hold that promise. But as felines they seem to not care because they just look for attention even though they can cause us a little bit of a problem. I find that from a feline's point of view, they have their resolutions and so do we as humans who can agree/disagree with them.
Join me tomorrow when I share my remark on feline's pen cap collection resolution. So stick around for that at 9am on Wednesday.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Wednesday December 28th,2022-Feline New Year resolution #3: Cut down on Nap time
Happy Wednesday all,
Another day is closer to New Year's Day so it's time for a dive into another Feline New Year resolution. On today's spotlight we take a look into Feline New Year resolution #3: Cutting down nap time. So lets get into it.
Source Link: https://iheartcats.com/10-new-years-resolutions-for-cats/ (#3 on the list for reference)
From Source:
#3 – I will take more naps
24 hours in a day is just not enough time to get all those naps in, but I should really try. That time I spent playing with you for example, could have been spent napping.
My Comments:
Well as felines, I feel this is a hard resolution to break but an easy one for their human companion to break. The reason why it's easy for humans to break is that they get up and move around all the time whereas our feline companions seem to just walk around real quick and then curl up to go back to bed. Most felines are more active at night and sleep during the day but some big felines seem to move during the day and sleep at night like tigers and lions. It's interesting to think a feline wants more nap time even though most of their day is usually spent sleeping instead of being active all the time.
Join me tomorrow at 9 am, where I'll take a dive into feline cuddling and share my comments about that new years resolution along with a special photo.

Thursday December 29th-Feline New Year resolution #4: Cuddle Time with Cats
Happy Thursday all,
Another day is closer to New Year's Day so it's time for a dive into another Feline New Year resolution. On today's spotlight we take a look into Feline New Year resolution #3: Cutting down nap time. So lets get into it.
Source Link: https://iheartcats.com/10-new-years-resolutions-for-cats/ (#10 on the list for reference)
From Source:
#10 – I will cuddle more
I know you love it when I interrupt whatever thing you are doing because you are bored (reading a book, typing on the computer, etc), and sit and purr.
My Comment
We as people get a lot of interruption in our lives but when it comes to our Felines, they are the cutest interruption we can get. With the felines for our companionship, they can be the best at helping with us when we have a stressful day or need a mental health break. So when our felines come to us, we should take it as a sign of needing a break from our lives and relax for a bit cause they could help distress and unwind from a busy day.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Friday December 30th,2022-Feline New Year resolution #5: Play time with our felines
Happy Friday all,
1 day left before getting to say goodbye on New Year Eve as there are two days left until 2023. So it's time for a dive into another Feline New Year resolution. On today's spotlight we take a look into Feline New Year resolution #3: Cutting down nap time. So lets get into it.
Source Link: https://iheartcats.com/10-new-years-resolutions-for-cats/ (#8 on the list for reference)
From Source:
#8 – I will play more
I am going to stay young by playing more. Which means you need to play with me more. I need to keep you healthy too..otherwise whose going to refill the food bowl?
My Comments:
When the felines want to play, it's a sign for us to exercise along with them. Most like to exercise while others like to sleep most of the day. The way I look at it is this, the younger they are, the more they want to play. The older they get, the less playful they want to be with us.
