Opinion & Answer Part V: Tender,Tank and Tram Engines

Tender Engines

Like the name states, Tender engines are steam locomotive that had tenders built behind the steam  locomotive to power them. Unlike the tank engines who have their coal bunker on the back of them, the tender engines had their coal bunker & water within their tender. With the help of their tenders carrying coal and water, they made them travel faster and longer. With this being no problem, their tender had them stopping less  to refuel than the tank engines who could only go short distances because of their small bunker and water tanks.

Tank Engines

Well the answer is that the tank engines were smaller and could only go shorter distances due to their small coal bunker and water tanks. Because of their small bunker and tanker, the tank engines had to stop more often to refuel for water and/or coal during their routine.

Another difference of the tank engine is that due to being smaller than the larger tender  also could go fast but not as fast as tender engines because of the lesser amount of water that they carried than the larger amount carried by the tender engines.

Steam Tram Engines

Well the answer to that question is no because there are few more differences that the tram engine has that makes them different from both the tender engine and tank engines. Another different characteristic  of tram engines, is that they were specially  designed/ built to run on roadside and streets beside tramway tracks hence the cow catchers that are on the bottom of the tram engines.
