Steam Train Post 1: Billintion E2

Billinton E2

As we travel through on the history rail train, we come to our first train stop. We start with my favorite train of them all, the Billinton E2 tank locomotive. The Billington E2 were created to replace the E1 tank locomotive created by Lawson Billinton. Lets take a look at the discovered details about the locomotive.

Billinton E2 Details

  1. Railroad/Basic: LB&SCR {London Brighton & South Coast Railway}

  2. Engine: Tank Engine

  3. Designer: Lawson Billinton

  4. Builder: Brighton Works

  5. Built (Year): 1913-1916-> 10 locomotives

    1. Without extended sides: 1913-1914

    2. Extended sides: 1915-1916

    3. Total: 10 locomotives

  6. Withdrawn: 1961-1963->all 10 real locomotive

  7. Number of Wheels: 6 wheels

  8. Configuration: 0-6-0T

  9. Top Speed: 70 mph/113 kph

  10. Preserved: 1 locomotive but no real locomotives (Fictional Thomas the tank Engine)

The E2 tank locomotives where mainly used for shunting and short distance freight trains due to their small coal bunker. The saddest part about Billinton E2 was when they were withdrawn from service and replace by diesel shutters and scrapped. The good news is that 1 E2 locomotive was persevered but only the fictional E2 named Thomas the tank engine with all the real E2 locomotives were scrapped.
