Steam Train Post 35: GWR 9400 Class

Great Western Railway 9400 Class Pannier Tank engine 

As we continued on  the history train journey, we arrived at our 35th stop. With this train trip, we leave the Caledonian Railway in Scotland and travel south into the United Kingdom so we can travel back to the Great Western Railway to see their 9400 class pannier tank engines that are used for shunting duties.

    1. Swindon Works  =>  10 locomotives

    2. R. Stephenson & Hawthorns => 100 locomotives

    3. W. G. Bagnall => 50 Locomotives

    4. Yorkshire Engine Company=> 50 Locomotives 

    5. Total: 210 locomotives were built 

  6. Withdrawn: 1959-1965

    1. All 210 locomotives

    2. 2 out of all the 210 locomotives were preserved 

    3. Remaining 208 locomotives were scrapped after  being withdrawn

  7. Number of Wheels: 6 wheels

    1. Real Life: 2 locomotives

      1.  Locomotives #9400 & #9466 were persevered

    1. Pannier tank engines #9400-9409 built by the Swindon Works were the last group of locomotives built by the Great Western Railway before nationalization happen in 1948 

    2. Pannier tank engines #9410-9499,#8400-9499 & #3400-3409 were built between 1948-1956 by private companies under British Railways
