Railway Operation Division Edition-Steam Train Posts #49-52: Railway Operation Division 2-8-0,Caledonian Railway 294 and 711 Classes,North Eastern Railway Class T/T & London and North Western Railway Class G1

In honor of Veteran Day last Friday 11/11/22, I decided to do a special Steam train Post towards the Railway Operation Division from Great Britain during World War 1 between this Sunday & Next Sunday 11/20/22.

Railway Operation Division 2-8-0 Locomotive 

As we continue on our train journey, we arrive at our 49th stop. With this train trip, we travel back in time to Great Britain in World War 1 when their Railway Operation Division had operated 2-8-0 steam locomotive that was based on Great Central Railway Class 8K. 

49. Railway Operation Division 2-8-0

    1. North British Locomotive Company => 369 ROD 2-8-0 Engines

    2. Robert Stephenson and Company => 82 ROD 2-8-0 Engines

    3. Nasmyth, Wilson and Company => 32 ROD 2-8-0 Engines

    4. Kitson and Company => 32 ROD 2-8-0 Engines

    5. Great Central Railway's Gorton Works => 6 ROD 2-8-0 Engines 

    6. Total: 521 ROD 2-8-0s Engines 

  6. Withdrawn (Post WW1): 

    1. Post War: 

      1. Great Western Railroad- Bought 100 ROD 2-8-0 (20 ROD 2-8-0s in 1919 & 80 ROD 2-8-0 in 1925)

        1. The first withdrawals were made in 1927, but 45 survived to be taken over by British Railways in 1948 and the last three survivors were not withdrawn until October 1958.

      2. London and North Western Railway bought 30 locos in 1920  then theLondon, Midland and Scottish Railway bought another 75 of the class in 1927 after the 1923 group stock examination 

        1. Withdrawals began in 1928 and the last was gone by 1932.

      3. London and North Eastern Railway which bought 273 between late 1923 and early 1927 to supplement its 130 existing GCR Class 8K locos

        1. Withdrawal of the first ex-LNER RODs was made by British Railways in 1959 and the last was retired from the Doncaster area in April 1966.

Caledonian Railway 294 and 711 Classes

As we continue on our train journey, we arrive at our 50th stop. With this train trip, we traveled from Great Britain to the Caledonian Railway to see their 294 and 711 Classes locomotives.

    1. All 244 locomotives survived to be absorbed by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) in 1923 and 238 survived into British Railways (BR) ownership in 1948.

North Eastern Railway Class T/T1

As we continue on our train journey, we arrive at our 51st stop. With this train trip, we traveled from  Caledonian Railway back to Great Britain to head for the North Eastern Railway to see their Class T/T1 steam locomotives

    1. the original tender from Q5 No. 771 survives as the tender on Q6 No. 2238 which has survived into preservation

As we continue on our train journey, we arrive at our 52nd stop. With this train trip, we traveled from the North Eastern Railway over to the London and North Western Railway to see their Class G1 locomotive.
