Steam Train Posts #79-82: North Eastern Railway 1463 class, Class H, Class B/B1 and Class P3 locomotives

Good Saturday afternoon everyone. It is time for another edition of Steam Train Posts, #79-82 for Saturday March 18th. On this edition of Steam Train Posts, we travel from the London Midland and Scottish Railroad and make our way over to the North Eastern Railway to visit their 1463 class, Class H, Class B/B1 and Class P3 locomotives. We will start off the trip with the 1463 class locomotives and then take a look at Class H locomotives,then Class B/B1 locomotives and end with the P3 locomotives.

  5. Built (Year): 1885 => 20 locomotives

    1. North Eastern Railway Darlington 10 locomotives

    4. Rebuilt: 1892-1896 => 20 locomotives 

  6. Withdrawn: 1926-1929

  7. Number of Wheels: 12 wheels 

  8. Configuration: 2-4-0

  9. Preserved: 1 locomotive


80. NER Class H Details

  1. Railroad/Basic: North Eastern Railway 

  2. Engine: Tank Engine

  3. Designer: T. W.  Worsdell

  4. Builder: Gateshead Works & Darlington Works 

  5. Built (Year): 1888-1923 => 24 locomotives

    1. Gateshead Works 19 locomotives

    2. Darlington Works 5  locomotives

    3. Total: 24 locomotives

  6. Withdrawn: 1929-1952

  7. Number of Wheels: 4 locomotives 

  8. Configuration: 0-4-0T

  9. Preserved: 2 locomotives 




81. NER B and B1 Classes Details

  2. Engine: Tank Engine
  3. Designer: Thomas William Worsdell
  4. Builder: Darlington Works 
  5. Built (Year): 1886-1890 => 62 locomotives
  6. Withdrawn: 1929-1956 => All 62 & scrapped 
  7. Number of Wheels: 4 locomotives 
  8. Configuration: 0-6-2T
  9. Preserved: 0 locomotives  

82. NER Class P3 Details

  3. Designer: Wilson Worsdell
  4. Builder: NER Darlington Works, North British Locomotive Co. Beyer, Peacock and Company,Robert Stephenson & Co.
  5. Built (Year): 1906-1923 => 115 locomotives
    1. NER Darlington Works 65 locomotives 
    2. North British Locomotive Co. 20 locomotives 
    3. Beyer, Peacock and Company 20 locomotives 
    4. Robert Stephenson & Co. 10 locomotives
    5. Total: 115 locomotives
